"Welcome to Extraction testing." Clementine has spent her whole life preparing for her sixteenth birthday, when she’ll be tested for Extraction in the hopes of being sent from the planet Kiel’s toxic Surface to the much safer Core, where people live without fear or starvation. When she proves promising enough to be “Extracted,” she must leave without Logan, the boy she loves. Torn apart from her only sense of family, Clem promises to come back and save him from brutal Surface life. What she finds initially in the Core is a utopia compared to the Surface—it’s free of hard labor, gun-wielding officials, and the moon's lethal acid. But life is anything but safe, and Clementine learns that the planet's leaders are planning to exterminate Surface dwellers—and that means Logan, too. Trapped by the steel walls of the underground and the lies that keep her safe, Clementine must find a way to escape and rescue Logan and the rest of the planet. But the planet leaders don't want her running—they want her subdued. With intense action scenes and a cast of unforgettable characters, Extraction is a page-turning, gripping read, sure to entertain lovers of Hunger Games and Ender's Game and leave them breathless for more.

Five hundred years ago on planet Kiel, pollution destroyed the ozone layer. The moon began leaking lethal acid so the government created a shield and sent people to live below the surface in the core. Those left on the surface are children used and abused. But they all have a chance at "Extraction." A test to see who is worth saving and moving to the Core. Clementine is up for her Extraction but if chosen would have to leave her lifelong best friend Logan who failed the Extraction test last year.

Clem is more known for her brains than athletic skills. Computes math equations quickly. She is super smart and caring. Doesn't want to have to leave Logan. Wants to make a difference and change things on the surface. I was sad Logan was not present for a large part of the book. He was so sweet and truly loved Clementine. He wanted to her to be extracted and saved even though it meant leaving him all alone for the rest of his short life. The kids are slaves and then killed off at 20 years old and replaced. The world building was very interesting and brutal. All the surface kids are treated horribly.

After the Extraction, the book had kind of a Divergent feel. Clementine has to go through training to increase her Promise and find the right job for her in the Core. She makes friends and enemies. One guy is trying to destroy her while another one helps her. I was really worried it was turning into a love triangle but luckily it didn't go that route which was such a relief. Totally rooting for Logan. Clem doesn't forget about him and wants to do whatever she can to save him. Things were constantly happening and lots of different twists and reveals. The Core isn't as wonderful of a place as Clementine was always told. I have so many different theories of what could be happening. Excited to see where the series goes next.

"They can't take me without you."

"I beat him, and he didn't scowl or laugh or chide me for it. He hugged me. He wrapped me in his arms, in his warmth, like he would never let me go."

Rating: 4/5

Twenty-one-year-old Stephanie Diaz wrote her debut novel, Extraction, when she should've been making short films and listening to college lectures at San Diego State University. When she isn't lost in books, she can be found singing, marveling at the night sky, or fan-girling over TV shows.

Release Day Launch ~ The Hazards of Sex on the Beach by Alyssa Rose Ivy ~ Review, Excerpt & Giveaway!

One broken heart, one drink too many, one steamy night in the sand... No one warns you about the dangers of drinking with a broken heart. At least no one warned me. I never imagined I'd fall for a musician, especially not one like Chase, but then again I never expected to have my heart broken into a million pieces by the frat guy I thought was the love of my life. Sometimes it's the rash decisions, like hooking up in the sand, that lead you to the best places—the kinds of places where it's possible to let yourself fall in love again.

I love the Hazards series! The books follow different couples so they do not have to be read in order although I believe that it does enhance the reading experience. Cara is at a party trying to get over her ex when a hot guy in a blazer begins flirting with her. It leads to a steamy one night stand on the beach and Cara leaves him without even giving her phone number. Her ex really hurt her so understandable she isn't ready to put herself out there. Then she coincidentally runs into him again and this time he isn't letting her get away.

Chase was one of the good guys. Almost unbelievably good. Honestly if I found a Chase I would think it was too good to be true! I can understand Cara's hesitation. It is hard to enter every new relationship without bringing the past into it. So many guys are untrustworthy but sometimes you have to take a chance and believe in people again. Not every musician is a cheater. Not every one night stand ends after just one night.

Cara was scared but I liked that she didn't continually push people away. She learned and let down her walls. I loved seeing Mallory and Juliet again. The three girls are a great group of friends and so supportive. I don't think I am even that supportive! LOL I can learn from them actually. Cara's first relationship ended so badly and I liked that she wanted to learn from it. I also liked that when some miscommunications came up she was strong enough to discuss it with Chase. That is really hard to do sometimes. A very fun, swoony romance. A bit predictable but so enjoyable! Alyssa Rose Ivy's books are addicting and always a one sit read!

Chase stepped back and put an arm around me. "Guys, this is Cara."
"Wait, the Cara? Miss Fuck and Run?"

"Are you texting with Chase?" Kyle asked while holding a compress to his nose.
"Ask him if I can get free tickets to his next show for defending his girlfriend's honor."
I laughed, before texting him exactly that.

"You're not getting a wink of sleep tonight."
"I'm not?" I pushed my body against his. "What am I going to be doing exactly?"
"Me. You're going to be doing me, babe."

"This one is about my Sex on the Beach girl, but it's not about what might have been, it's about what's real-what's really here."

He took a strand of my hair and studied it. “Is this your natural color?”
He dropped the strand. “I’ve never dated a girl with blonde hair.”
“Well, you’re not dating me.”
He gently brushed his fingers down my bare arm. “No, but I want to kiss you.”
“Then kiss me.” I was used to pushy guys. The kind that knew what they wanted and took it.
“Okay.” He smiled before leaning in.
The kiss was hesitant at first, the kind of kiss that gets your whole body excited because you know there’s more to come. I waited—hoping he’d take it further. His hand slid just under the hem of my shirt, brushing against my skin. The touch was light, but it was still enough to get a response out of me. I moaned.
That must have been what he was waiting for. He deepened the kiss, pushing into my mouth with such force I was taken by surprise. I kissed him back, enjoying the sweet taste of his mouth, and the way his hand slowly inched its way up my stomach. Blazer moved from zero to sixty. I didn’t mind it. I moved onto his lap, welcoming the arm he put around me to pull me closer. I wrapped my arms around his neck.
His hand moved higher, cupping my breast over my bra. I was drunk and hot, and so turned on I was going to lose it.
That’s when the door to the roof opened. The loud laughter of a group of girls pulled me half out of my lustful stupor.
“Want to go for a walk?” His question was asking something else entirely. I knew that when I answered with an enthusiastic yes.
Blazer held my hand as we made our way through the crowds. I looked briefly for Gabriella, but I didn’t see her. The normal Cara would have called her to tell her I was leaving with a random guy—but was Blazer random? We had chatted for hours already.
Before I could worry about it long, we were walking along the dark and nearly vacant beach. It was January on the South Carolina coast, and the crowds were months away.
“You never told me your name.” He said it as a statement as he led me further away from the party.
“Hi, Cara. I’m Chase.”
I smiled. “Isn’t it a little late for introductions?” I stopped and turned toward the ocean.
“It’s never too late.” He drew something on my arm with his finger. The sensation felt good. I closed my eyes.
“You look so gorgeous. The moonlight, that look on your face.”
I opened my eyes and his face was inches from mine. “If you’ve never dated a blonde, does that mean you’ve never had sex with one?”
“Why? Are you looking to change that?” His eyes were lidded.
“I’d like to.” I slipped a finger into the waistband of his jeans.
“Should we go back to my hotel room, or do you have one?” He looked down. “I’m going to be honest here. I haven’t done this before.”
“Please don’t tell me you’re a virgin.” That would be just my luck.
He laughed. “No. Not saying that at all. I just don’t generally hook up with girls I’ve just met.”
“At least you know my name.”
“I do know your name, don’t I, Cara?”
Something happened to me when he said my name. I needed him. I reached up again, wrapping my arms around him. I crushed my lips into his.
We came up for air only after ending up horizontal on the sand. He laughed. “Or we can just pick things up right here.”

WOW #104

I'm waiting on

 Death Date

Death Date by Victoria Laurie
Release Date January 13th 2015

Pretty Little Liars meets Medium in this fast-paced thriller and fantastic YA debut from a New York Times bestselling author

Maddie Fynn is a shy high school junior, cursed with an eerie intuitive ability: she sees a series of unique digits hovering above the foreheads of each person she encounters. Her earliest memories are marked by these numbers, but it takes her father's premature death for Maddie and her family to realize that these mysterious digits are actually death dates, and just like birthdays, everyone has one.

Forced by her alcoholic mother to use her ability to make extra money, Maddie identifies the quickly approaching death date of one client's young son, but because her ability only allows her to see the when and not the how, she's unable to offer any more insight. When the boy goes missing on that exact date, law enforcement turns to Maddie.

Soon, Maddie is entangled in a homicide investigation, and more young people disappear and are later found murdered. A suspect for the investigation, a target for the murderer, and attracting the attentions of a mysterious young admirer who maybe connected to it all, Maddie's whole existence is about to be turned upside down. Can she right things before it's too late?

Why I'm Waiting?
I'm a big fan of Victoria Laurie's adult books so I'm excited to see how a YA book goes. This sounds like an intriguing mystery just like the rest of her books. Being able to see someone's death date would be crazy.

Thrive (Addicted, #2.5)
Two years will change them forever.

When rumors spread like wildfire—like having three-ways with her boyfriend’s rock climbing brother—Lily Calloway spirals into a dark place. Her bedroom. Loren Hale is more confident and determined to keep their sex life private, even from their friends, and he helps Lily in the only way he knows how. But how much love is too much?

Their lives are filmed, watched, and criticized. And through it all, Lily and Loren have to face enemies they never thought they’d see, demons they don’t know if they should bury, and setbacks they didn’t think they’d meet. Not this soon.

And one rumor could be too much for them to handle. It will test their greatest limitations, and if they don’t hold onto each other, someone is going to drown.

A full-length New Adult Romance that bridges the gap between the second and third books. Thrive must be read before Addicted After All if you have not read the Calloway Sisters spin-off series.

Thrive (Addicted #2.5) by Krista & Becca Ritchie
Releasing July 18th 2014

Lily Calloway’s POV

“You’re a sex addict and I’m an alcoholic,” he says, “and the whole fucking world knows it. We have to get used to people staring, love.”
He’s right of course. My mind seems to calm, but my body doesn’t follow just yet. My legs feel gooey, and my shoulders shake a little, on edge.
The words leave my lips before I can stop them, “Can I give you a blow job?”
“No,” he deadpans.
I raise my hands. “You’re right. You’re so right. Blow jobs are so ‘89.”
“Let’s not go that far.” He smiles softly, and I don’t know why, but tears prick my eyes. I’m such a sap. And there goes that smile, fading away. “Lil…”
“I’m sorry,” I blurt out. “I shouldn’t have asked. Can we do take-backs?”

Krista Ritchie has a clone...or someone who looks exactly like her. She likes tennis, that thing called the TV, and beating Becca (her clone) on Sega Genesis. She created YA Book Exchange to combat her book buying addiction and started Nawanda Files, a YA Book Blog that features books into movies news, to share her love for all things bookish. Oh, and she does something called science. Whatever that is.
Krista & Becca Ritchie write New Adult books that make you cringe, gasp, and go ooh-la-la. (If you do that sort of thing.) They are currently working on the spin-offs and final books in the Addicted series.

Book Looks ~ Graffiti Moon by Cath Crowley

Graffiti Moon by Cath Crowley inspired book look

I had a shirt that was very similar to this dress and it came in hot pink or yellow and I bought hot pink. I always shied away from yellow but I think it looks great with black. This was a great book too!
